COMMUNITY ACTION AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA MEDIA RELEASE 24th May 2007 |
SAME-SEX MARRIAGE RIGHTS & EQUALITY FOR ALL - A CALL TO ACTION. REPEAL THE BAN ON SAME-SEX MARRIAGE.National Day of Action August 12thAustralia was the first country to have banned same-sex marriage. This ban runs contrary to other Western nations which have legalised same-sex marriage such as Belgium, Netherlands, and now Spain . Even arch-conservative Bush has not been able to ban same-sex marriage within America . The progressive state of Massachusetts within America still operates as a liberated zone -- continuing to marry same sex couples. Not content to ban same-sex marriage the Howard government banned Australian Capital Territories (ACT) civil unions in June 2006 and squashed any hope of an ACT same-sex registration scheme. The Howard government intends to ban overseas same sex adoption in the lead up to the election this year. We are fighting a staunchly homophobic regime. Any initiatives for relationship schemes are welcome – but we will not give up the fight for full equality – for full same-sex marriage rights. Join us in the fight to repeal the marriage ban and for marriage rights for all. Rally for the National Day of Action on August 11, 3 years after they banned same-sex marriage. A forum to launch the build up to the NDA to repeal the ban on Same Sex Marriage will be held on the 13th June & your attendance is encouraged to sign onto the campaign In 2006 this NDA was endorsed by:
