COMMUNITY ACTION AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA MEDIA RELEASE [FOR IMMEDIATE RELREASE] 19th October 2007 |
SAME-SEX CIVIL UNIONS UNDER THREAT FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENTCampaign for Civil Unions rally in support of ACT Legislative AssemblyOn Saturday 29th of March, the Campaign for Civil Unions will be holding a rally at the Legislative Assembly at 1pm. Spurred into action by McClellands comments claiming that the ceremonial aspects of the ACT model for Civil Unions are inappropriate, the CCU is calling for the ACT Government to stand firm in support of the original version of the legislation. Rebecca Leighton of the CCU stated that the CCU would prefer to see the ACT Government risk the overturn of the Civil Partnerships Bill, than cave to Federal pressure to water down the bill, and remove the ceremonial aspect. Speakers at the demo will include Andrew Barr from the Labour Party, and Deb Fosky from the Greens.
